Nouveauté

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Emil Schumacher Museum, Hagen, 30 June 2024 - 5 January 2025

At the time of his death, Jean Fautrier (1898-1964) was one of the most influential figures in the young German Art Informel scene. The French artist was present at almost every group exhibition on the Art Informel phenomenon, from Paris and Düsseldorf to Tokyo, and his works are represented in major collections around the world. Despite its great importance, his work had not been shown in a solo exhibition in a German museum for almost 45 years.

This monographic exhibition catalogue brings together works by Fautrier from almost all the artist's creative phases, from numerous German private collections and international museums. With more than 170 works, including around 70 paintings, over 40 examples of his ‘Originaux multiples’ and around thirty sculptures representing almost all of his sculptural work, it covers a broad spectrum that allows us to truly rediscover the painter.
