Nouveauté

Auteur(s) : Charles Noble, Gregory Rubinstein, Christian Tico Seifert

Exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, 9 November 2024 - 23 February 2025

Chatsworth House, the residence of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire in Derbyshire, has one of the most important private collections of drawings in the world. These works of art are rarely seen and very little has been published about them.

This exhibition catalogue presents 47 Flemish, Dutch and German drawings and watercolours, produced between 1500 and 1700, from this exceptional collection. Each work is presented and contextualised on the basis of rigorous new research, shedding new light on the work of some of the greatest names in art. Included are works by Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein the Younger and Sir Peter Paul Rubens. Drawings made by Rembrandt during his walks in and around Amsterdam, as well as Van Dyck's preparatory drawings for a series of portraits of ‘celebrities’, are among the highlights of this book.
