D'OR ET D'ÉCLAT : LE BIJOU À LA RENAISSANCE

Auteur(s) : Julie Rohou (dir.)
Exhibition at the Fondation Bemberg, Toulouse, 4 April - 27 July 2025
The art of jewellery evolved rapidly on the threshold of the 16th century in Europe, incorporating the stylistic innovations of the Renaissance, inspired by the examples of rediscovered Antiquity and the formal games of Mannerism. Jewellery was thus at the heart of a dialogue at the crossroads of the arts, made possible by the fascination that these works aroused. No other century has celebrated jewellery with such splendour and imagination.
This catalogue of the first exhibition devoted to Renaissance jewellery since that of the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1980 offers an opportunity to rediscover one of the lesser-known aspects of art history, drawing on the latest scientific advances through the presentation of more than 120 varied works of art.
The exhibition was organised in partnership with the Musée national de la Renaissance - Château d'Écouen to mark the 30th anniversary of the Fondation Bemberg.
