Yayoi Kusama: 1945 To Now

Auteur(s) : Doryun Chong, Mika Yoshitake

Exhibition at the M+, Hong Kong, 12 November 2022 - 14 May 2023

In a career spanning seven decades and multiple media, Yayoi Kusama (1929-) has achieved worldwide acclaim. She began in the mid-twentieth century during the avant-garde period of artistic experimentation in Asia and quickly became a central figure in the New York art scene of the 1960s. Today, the Japanese artist continues to communicate her highly personal and spiritual worldview through her art.

The most comprehensive survey of Yayoi Kusama's work to date, this monograph, which accompanies the first M+ exhibition, is structured around six thematic sections, "Infinity," "Accumulation," "The Biocosmos," "Radical Connectedness," "Death," and "The Life Force," elucidating the aesthetic and philosophical concerns at the heart of the artist's work. The book also offers a selection of Kusama's writings, some previously unpublished, her correspondence with Georgia O'Keeffe, and essays and interviews that trace her long and prolific career.
