HENRY MOORE

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Fonds Leclerc pour la culture, Landernau, 10 June - 4 November 2018

Henry Moore was one of the most influential sculptors of the twentieth century and the first British artist to achieve international recognition in his lifetime. The embodiment of post-war modernism, his art initiated the revival of sculpture in Great Britain, a movement that continues to this day. Throughout his career, the sculptor focused on three themes: the reclining figure, mother and child, and the relationship between interior and exterior forms.

This exhibition catalogue, produced in collaboration with the Henry Moore Foundation in Perry Green, brings together an exceptional collection of works rarely shown in France: over 100 sculptures (plaster casts, bronzes, wood and stone) and 80 drawings, works produced from the 1920s-1930s onwards, his Shelter drawings produced during the Second World War, a large selection of models from his studio, his major architectural projects, including the Rotterdam Wall, the series dedicated to Stonehenge, and many of the sculptures that made his international reputation. Accompanied by previously unpublished critical apparatus and reference material on the artist, it follows the development of Moore's key themes throughout his career and illustrates how the artist's style evolved into an original language, recognised by audiences worldwide, based on the exploration of the human figure through a blend of organic and abstract forms.
