Exhibition at the Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University, Bloomington, 14 February - 15 June 2025

Renowned for her sophisticated approach to colour, composition and technique, Blanche Hoschedé-Monet (1865-1947) was part of a network of successful artists in Giverny, Rouen and Paris during the first half of the twentieth century, although she is most often recognised for her relationship with her father-in-law Claude Monet. The artist developed a distinct style that favoured carefully framed views and landscapes painted in the open air.

Drawing on previously unpublished sources, including her sketchbook, and new photographs of largely unknown works of art, this exhibition catalogue is the first to present this important artist, whose life and work were shaped by the artistic community she helped to create in Giverny. The book brings together some forty-six paintings from French and American public and private collections, the vast majority of which have never been exhibited in the United States. Three paintings by Claude Monet illustrate the points of comparison and divergence between Claude Monet and Blanche Hoschedé.
