Hyacinthe Rigaud, 1659-1743: L'homme Et Son Art

Auteur(s) : Ariane James Sarazin

This book by Ariane James-Sarazin, chief curator for Heritage and director of the Angers museums, is devoted to the French painter Hyacinthe Rigaud (1659-1743).

The first volume, Vie et œuvre, includes a complete biography of the painter, and a study of his clientele, his creation process, his work and his evolution. It is completed by numerous appendixes, including an iconography of the painter and an unpublished dictionary of his pupils and collaborators.
The second volume is the catalogue raisonné of Rigaud's work. A thousand of numbers, organised chronologically, all thoroughly studied, show the unknown aspects of the portraitist of European elites through paintings, drawings, replicas, copies and prints.
