Exhibition at the Musée Paul Valéry, Sète, 25 June - 6 November 2022
One of the major artists in the revival of painting in France since the 1980s, François Boisrond (1959-) started out in the Figuration Libre movement alongside Rémi Blanchard, Hervé Di Rosa, and Robert Combas before finding new subjects in his daily life in Paris, for which he integrates Polaroid photographs into his research while simultaneously reinterpreting masterpieces, including Manet's Le Déjeuner sur l'Herbe and Watteau's Gilles.
Boisrond then moved on to a body of work marked by the influence of cinema before turning to the pictorial techniques of the masters of the past, without abandoning all reference to the world of the 7th art.
This catalogue of the retrospective devoted to François Boisrond brings together 114 paintings selected to reflect his entire production. Organised chronologically, the book addresses the question of the unity of the artist's work, punctuated by successive breaks, thus drawing a singular trajectory.
