Exhibition at the Granet Museum, Aix-en-Provence, 28 January - 28 May 2023
David Hockney (1937-) is Britain's most famous living artist. Drawing on many sources, including popular imagery and the works of old and modern masters, his work focuses on the great classics of art and on representation and perspective.
Hockney's work has emphasised the multiplicity of possibilities in the traditional fields of painting, printmaking and drawing, but also in his more contemporary use of photography and digital technologies.
This exhibition catalogue places Hockney's groundbreaking work in a broad cultural context and analyses the ways in which the artist has interrogated the nature of the gaze and representation. The book traces his career from the mid-1950s to the present day, with works drawn primarily from the Tate collection in the UK but also from private collections.
