Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Petit Palais, Paris, 10 March - 10 July 2022

Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905) was a pioneer of Finnish painting, trained in the studios of Paris. He was "the most Parisian of the Finns and the most Finnish of the Parisians", and became well known for his famous portrait of Louis Pasteur.

This exhibition catalogue, the first monograph devoted to the artist, reveals the diversity of Edelfelt's work, which ranges from history paintings, to pleinairism with its impressionist influence, to scenes of modern life and portraits of his native land. The book contains a wealth of information on all the works presented and is structured according to the chronological sequence of the exhibition. It also includes essays by Scandinavian specialists and an illustrated chronology.
