Stefano Chiassai began his training at a very young age in the family business, before finally creating his own brand in 1980 - a line of total looks distributed worldwide. In 1985, he and his wife Alessandra founded SCS Studio Chiassai. In 1987, he presented his own brand at Pitti Trend, Pitti Uomo and the Milan Fashion Weeks. Since 1994, when the brand closed, the studio's work has focused on style consultancy and trend research for a number of brands.
Since the early 2000s, he has been designing menswear lines for international brands, using his aesthetic to reconcile the world of traditional craftsmanship with that of new technologies.
In this book, Chiassai explains how he seeks to unlock the new potential of the royal fabric par excellence, velvet, by transporting it into the realms of ready-to-wear.
Chiassai's research is rooted in the luxury sector, with projects that have a strong urban imprint.
