Exhibition at Galerie Kugel, Paris, 1 - 30 September 2000
This exhibition catalogue rediscovers the field of Renaissance jewellery. These jewels, dating from the 13th to the end of the 17th century, are sometimes subtle and delicate, sometimes ostentatious, made up of elaborate emblems, forms borrowed from architecture, the animal or vegetable kingdom, a profusion of brightly coloured enamelled gold, baroque pearls or table diamonds. These jewels reflect their patrons and underline their personality.
The book includes 151 numbers described and illustrated in colour as well as a catalogue of plaster casts and jewellery models from the workshop of the restorer Alfred André (1839-1919).
