Blanc D'étoiles : Porcelaines De Dehua Des Ming Aux Qing

The ceramic production centre of Dehua, China, has developed over the centuries, drawing on skills developed since the Neolithic period among local pottery communities who took advantage of the excellent materials available in the region, particularly white clay. Dehua is thus best known in the West for its "Chinese whiteware", which has been appreciated and collected in Europe since the 17th century, and subsequently disseminated and imitated throughout the world.

This book seeks to convey an appreciation of the leading role played by Dehua in the history of ceramics, both in China and worldwide. The book is based on a selection from the collection assembled by Su Qinghe, a major figure who played an essential role in bridging the gap between the tradition inherited from his masters and today's creation. An artist, workshop manager, engineer, collector and art historian, this multi-talented man with encyclopaedic knowledge never ceased to revive the tradition of his native city.
