Auteur(s) : Bettina Baumgärtel

Exhibition at the Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, 30 January - 12 July 2020

One of the outstanding artistic personalities of the Classical Age of art in London and Rome, Angelica Kauffman (1741-1807) enjoyed an international reputation. Admired by Goethe and Herder, she counted among her clients queens and emperors from across the European continent.
This exhibition catalogue explores the story of Kauffman myth, which arose even while she was still working. Her life and work are presented here through reproductions of more than one hundred of her paintings and drawings, including many never before seen. The book pays particular attention to Kauffman's impact in England, where she was the first female member of the Royal Academy of Arts.
