Josiah Wedgwood (1730-1795) was a very determined, skilled and enterprising man, and the remarkable success of the ceramics business he founded in 1759 is often attributed to these qualities.
However, the Wedgwood name came to represent much more than its illustrious and energetic founder: he united art and industry, introduced design and artistic collaborations, and paved the way for the development of the firm's iconic blue and white jasper.
This book tells that story through design, reflecting the ongoing role that Wedgwood and its designers, artists and employees have played in setting trends - including collaborations with many British artists and designers such as Christopher Dresser, Eric Ravilious and Keith Murray. It showcases the finest pieces from the V&A's Wedgwood collection, reflecting the artistic heritage, craftsmanship and innovation that have become synonymous with the Wedgwood name for over 250 years.
