Tarz : Broder Au Maroc, Hier Et Aujourd'hui
Auteur(s) : Collectif
Exhibition at the Angoulême Museum, 18 June - 31 December 2022
In Morocco, embroidery plays a major role in visual culture. They seduce with their subtle nuances, their rhythmic harmonies and the strength that emerges from their compositions, specific to each city or region: Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Rabat, Salé, Fez, Meknes, Azemmour, or, further south, the regions of Tafilalt and the Anti-Atlas. Little known to the general public, these embroideries are the products of a living art, both intimate and spectacular, whose origins go back to the oldest local traditions.
This exhibition catalogue presents the exceptional collections of Moroccan embroidery in the Musée d'Angoulême - mainly from the former Prosper Ricard collection - as well as contemporary creations that interact with the traditional works. Bringing together contributions from specialists from various backgrounds, this book sheds light on the works from many angles.
