Les Caprices De Ludovise Un Décor Retrouvé De L'ancien Château De Sceaux

Auteur(s) : Dominique Brême, Catherine Cessac

After buying the Colbert estate in Sceaux, the Duke and Duchess of Maine set about updating it. In 1704, the mistress of the house, nicknamed Ludovise, who was passionate about astronomy, mathematics and philosophy, commissioned Claude III Audran to decorate a painted cabinet dedicated to the arts and sciences. She was about to turn Sceaux into a brilliant, extravagant and festive court, equally demanding for the serious and the light, a real competitor to that of her father-in-law, King Louis XIV.

This book recounts the rediscovery of the decor of the Cabinet des Arts et des Sciences in the former Château de Sceaux, a perfect expression of a forgotten culture.
