Exhibition at the Palais Lumière, Évian, 8 June 2024 - 5 January 2025
The painters Henri Martin (1860-1943) and Henri Le Sidaner (1862-1939) have always been regarded as fraternal talents. Belonging to a Symbolist generation enamoured of music and poetry, the two artists were first and foremost nature lovers, whose two sides they embodied: the sunny brightness of the southern land for Henri Martin and the soothing effects of the northern soul for Le Sidaner. The two artists had a deep connection and were part of the intimist movement that dominated the Belle Époque.
This catalogue of the first exhibition to bring the two artists together brings together 120 paintings, a number of drawings and 2 bronzes. From Collioure and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie to Étaples and Gerberoy, the book traces and compares the careers of the two artists, from their beginnings to the Roaring Twenties and their posterity.
