Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Musée national des châteaux de Malmaison & Bois-Préau, 9 October 2022 - 9 January 2023

This catalogue of the exhibition organised on the occasion of the reopening of the Château de Bois-Préau after more than 25 years of closure is devoted to Eugène de Beauharnais (1781-1824), son of Josephine and adopted son of Napoleon.

The book presents for the first time a synthesis between the theatres that were his residences in Paris, Milan and Munich by developing correspondences and comparisons. Through 150 works from prestigious public and private collections, it presents a biography of Eugène de Beauharnais illustrated by works of art and representations of famous artists such as Antoine-Jean Gros, François Gérard, Jean-Baptiste Isabey, Andrea Appiani, and Karl Joseph Stieler, and then goes on to discuss the decor and furnishings of his residences, his passion for the arts, his taste for science, and his sense of management.
