Corps et âmes

Auteur(s) : Emma Lavigne
Exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce, Paris, 5 March - 25 August 2025
From Auguste Rodin to Duane Hanson, from Georg Baselitz to Ana Mendieta, from David Hammons to Marlene Dumas, from Arthur Jafa to Ali Cherri, some forty artists explore the links between body and mind through painting, sculpture, photography, video and drawing. Forms are metamorphosed, freed from figuration to capture, hold and let the soul and consciousness emerge. The aim is no longer simply to paint bodies, but to embody the forces that run through them, to make visible what is buried, invisible, to shed light on the shadows of history - particularly those of the colonial heritage, uprooting and exile.
Through a hundred or so works from the Pinault Collection, this exhibition catalogue explores the representation of the body in contemporary art. In addition to thematic essays developing the exhibition's theme, there are notes highlighting the works reproduced in the catalogue.
