Exhibition at the Bourse du Commerce, Paris, 9 October 2024 - 20 January 2025
Originating in Rome and Turin, Arte Povera emerged on the international scene in the 1960s. This original, totally unconventional and non-dogmatic body of work, using simple materials and techniques, expanded the fields of painting, sculpture, drawing and photography, creating the first 'installations' in the history of art.
Featuring 250 works ranging from legacy to influence, this exhibition catalogue seeks to shed light on both the Italian birth and the international influence of this movement, through the works of the thirteen main protagonists of Arte Povera: Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Luciano Fabro, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Marisa Merz, Giulio Paolini, Pino Pascali, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Emilio Prini and Gilberto Zorio. A series of photographs of the artists, their studios and their exhibitions illustrates the apogee of Arte povera, through images brought together exceptionally for this publication.
