Mario Buatta: Anatomy Of A Decorator

Auteur(s) : Emily Evans Eerdmans

Based on previously unpublished archival documents, this monograph presents the decorative life of Mario Buatta (1935-2018), one of the great American interior designers of the twentieth century. It reveals the foundations of his work through hundreds of presentation panels and over eighty scrapbooks chronicling his career, as well as correspondence with clients and design personalities such as John Fowler and Sister Parish.

The book highlights the designer's work, focusing on his influences, his process and his evolution. His latest projects, which were not included in the complete book on the decorator published by Rizzoli in 2013, are also assessed, offering a masterclass in Buatta-style decoration. Ribbons, embroidery, English and American antiques, floral chintz, blue and white porcelain, lacquerware, botany, bright colour combinations and fantasy demonstrate Buatta's influence on today's world of maximalist interiors.
