Exhibition at the André Malraux Museum of Modern Art, Le Havre, 18 April - 31 August 2015
The subject of numerous retrospectives around the world, Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956), a key 20th-century artist, is finally being exhibited in France, thanks to the generosity of a passionate collector.
Through 139 works (paintings, watercolours, drawings and engravings) covering Feininger's entire career, from 1907 to 1949, this exhibition catalogue allows us to discover the graphic work of this virtuoso artist and the dazzling series of woodcuts executed mainly at the Bauhaus in barely four years, between 1918 and 1922. This endearing and poetic work reveals a committed artist, at grips with the convictions and utopias of his time.
