NEW REVISED AND AUGMENTED EDITION
Born with the 1798 French campaign in Egypt and Syria, the interest of the artists for a known or dreamt Orient was accentuated by the Greek insurrection in 1821 or by the invasion of Algiers in 1830. The romantic inspirations in Delacroix's Moroccan work were followed by "ethnographic" approaches by travellers in search of otherness, before Matisse and Kandinsky aesthetic overturning around Munich exhibition of Muslim art in 1910.
Twenty years after the first edition and after several reprints, this new edition offers an enhanced vision of this study on Orientalism.
