Les Bronzes Barbedienne : L'oeuvre D'une Dynastie De Fondeurs

Auteur(s) : Florence Rionnet

Founded in 1834, the Maison Barbedienne is unquestionably the most famous publisher of bronze sculptures in France in the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th. Until its cessation of business in 1954, it knew an unequalled international outreach, and edited bronzes by the most famous living sculptors, including Auguste Rodin and Antoine-Louis Barye.
This book traces the history of the Maison Barbedienne in a global context of intense political, economic, social and artistic mutations, and highlights its leading position in sculpture edition. It contains the catalogue of the few 2000 models published by the Maison Barbedienne listed to date. It is now the reference book for the identification of Barbedienne bronzes which can be found in very numerous collections and which regularly reappear on the art market in France or in great international auctions.
