Le Versailles De Louis Xiv Un Palais Pour La Sculpture

Auteur(s) : Alexandre Maral

From 1660 to 1715, Versailles construction was at the origin of the realisation and gathering of a considerable number of sculptures: this set wanted by Louis XIV still represents nowadays an unequalled collection in the field of public procurement. The sculpted heritage of Versailles was created following a process of ongoing creation, which allowed along the years several figures to leave their mark: Girardon, the Marsy brothers, Coysevox, Keller, but also, inside the construction projects, Colbert, Louvois, Le Brun or Hardouin-Mansart.
This book aims to offer a clear view on the different steps which allowed this heritage, to analyse their conditions of creation, and to offer interpretations participating to the history of the site.
