A sculptor, painter and furniture designer, Jean Touret (1916-2004) was swept up from his earliest commissions in the post-war effervescence that accompanied the construction of new places of worship, from emblematic chapels like the one in Tignes to the creation of the modern altar at Notre-Dame de Paris. Alongside his commissioned works, Jean Touret sculpted Christs and prophets throughout his life, and filled his home with these figures, witnesses to his own aspiration to a life without artifice.
This monograph brings together, for the first time, all of Jean Touret's religiously inspired work. Among the many personal accounts in this book is that of the Archbishop of Paris, Jean-Marie Lustiger, with whom the sculptor worked for forty years.
