Ernest Chaplet : La Révolution Du Rouge De Cuivre

Auteur(s) : Ducret Marc

Devoted to the aspect of matter, the sculptor and ceramist Ernest Chaplet (1835-1909) transcended in turn the resources of coloured slip, brown stoneware, glazed stoneware, porcelain with multiple superimposed glazes and contradictory colours. Thanks to his collaboration with the ceramist Alexandre Bigot, Chaplet succeeded in mastering the manufacturing process of the famous "ox blood" discovered in China in the 13th century and rediscovered at the Sèvres factory.

Numerous photos illustrate this monograph, which presents the life and work of Chaplet, allowing us to understand the subtlety and creative power of the artist, as well as his technical prowess, such as the discovery of copper reds on stoneware, known as flambé.
