Exhibition at Galerie Yves Gastou, Paris, 28 March - 4 May 2024

Béatrice Serre (1970-) has revitalised the age-old art of mosaic with her exuberant, futuristic creations. She grew up in an ever-changing environment, moving with her family from Gabon to China and Brazil, which contributed to her interest in the people and places of the world, and particularly in the natural elements found there.

Her compositions, in which she uses ancient Greco-Roman and Byzantine stone-cutting techniques, are made from fragments of precious and unconventional materials unearthed from the depths of the earth. Béatrice Serre's creations - wall panels, mirrors, pieces of furniture - are now on show in galleries in France and abroad.

Published to coincide with the exhibition at Galerie Yves Gastou, this first monograph devoted to Béatrice Serre reveals a singular artist who has revolutionised the art of mosaics. It presents her most emblematic pieces, giving pride of place to details and close-ups to better illustrate the boldness and finesse of her creations, which combine glass paste and metal with semi-precious stones.
