Théâtres De Verdure

Auteur(s) : Nathalie Deguen, Marie Caroline Thuillier

Since the middle of the 17th century, with the development of stage sets and theatre architecture, the gardens have housed places of entertainment presenting a plurality of architectural typologies.

For the first time, this book fully presents theses extraordinary landscape compositions. A general introduction examines the genesis and evolution of the green theatres, from the Villa Reale de Marlia (Lucca) in the 17th century to more contemporary scenes, as at Saint-Marcel de Félines (Loire) or in the Jardin des Oules (Gard), focusing on their conception, landscaping, but also on their use and artistic programme. Then, around sixty places are presented, including Villa Rizzardi (Veneto), Mirabell palace (Salzburg), Aarhus hemicycle (Denmark), the Trinity Laban Theater (London) or the Jardin de l'Imaginaire (Dordogne).
