Exhibition at the Grand Palais, Paris, 11 December 2024 - 19 March 2025
Chiharu Shiota (1972-) is world-renowned for her monumental installations made of interwoven woollen threads. These gigantic canvases are often wrapped around everyday objects, taking viewers on a majestic dreamlike journey. Her protean creations explore notions of temporality, movement, memory and dreams, and require both the mental and physical involvement of the viewer.
This catalogue of the largest exhibition devoted to the Japanese artist covers more than 20 years of her career. Initiated by the Mori Art Museum, the exhibition has been travelling around Asia and Australia since 2019. It reproduces the works on show (monumental installations, videos, sculptures, drawings and archival documents), while presenting the artist's career and vision, and also features an enhanced version that allows visitors to see the artist's works in situ, in the renovated Grand Palais.
