African Art From The Menil Collection

Bamana masks and headdresses, Lega ivories, Dogon sculpture, and Benue bronzes are among the many exquisite African artifacts found in the Menil Collection. Featuring new photography and entries by leading scholars, this publication catalogues 115 of the finest pieces. Dating primarily from the 19th and 20th centuries, the works come from North Africa and the Sahel, Coastal West Africa, and Central and East Africa. Their detailed examination is complemented by Kristina Van Dyke's essay, which explores the formation of the Menil's African art collection and puts it into context with the whole of the museum.
