Exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Limoges, 22 October 2022 - 12 February 2023
The first glass painting workshop in Limousin was created in 1907 by Francis Chigot (1879-1960), a brilliant colourist and enterprising industrialist. Over the course of half a century of activity, some five hundred buildings, public monuments - civil and religious - or private buildings, in various parts of the world, received stained glass windows of very different kinds, attesting to the influence and notoriety of this workshop.
This exhibition catalogue highlights the workshop's impressive output through a significant selection of stained glass windows, models, cartoons and sketches of windows designed in Limoges between 1907 and 1960, various documents - photographic plates and prints, advertisements, etc. -, enamels and pastels. The book also evokes the cartonniers and collaborators of Chigot, who played an essential role in the evolution of the art of stained glass in the first half of the 20th century.
