Un Château Moderne : Villa Cavrois, Robert Mallet-Stevens

Since its construction, the Villa Cavrois has been an object, a field of exploration for photographers. It was Robert Mallet-Stevens himself who started the trend by publishing Albin Salaün's photographs in the magazine L'Architecture d'aujourd'hui in 1932. The images of the villa travelled around the world and were published in numerous newspapers and magazines.

In the 1980s, the Centre Georges Pompidou entrusted Véra Cardot and Pierre Joly with a final report before the Cavrois family dispersed the furniture and sold their "modern castle". This was followed by 10 years of abandonment and vandalism, during which many photographers and artists crept behind the fences to bring back pictures which, although often of great plastic beauty, nonetheless bear witness to the villa's extreme degradation. In 2015, the villa was finally restored to its 1932 state and was undoubtedly the most photographed and published modern building of the year.
