Gérard Schneider (1896-1986), a painter of the New School of Paris, was one of the pioneers of the lyrical abstraction movement. After his impressionist beginnings, he turned to surrealism, before finding his own expression around 1943, the non-geometric abstraction known as "informal". From 1950 onwards, the painter was represented in Paris at the Galerie Louis Carré, then his works were exhibited from 1955 to 1960 at the Kootz Gallery in New York.

This monograph offers a biographical overview and a presentation of the work of the Swiss-born painter.
