Somewhat reluctant to give interviews, Maurizio Cattelan (1960-) is a perfect interviewer. For twenty years, since 2001, he has maintained conversations and dialogues with other artists and creators, both emerging and established.
Originally published in magazines and newspapers, including Flash Art Italia, International, Purple Magazine, Vogue and Il Manifesto, in artist monographs and exhibition catalogues, these more than 130 conversations are reprinted here in an anastatic copy in their original form. The interviewees include Alighiero Boetti, Phil Collins, Ferran Adrià, Alex Da Corte, Seth Price, Urs Fischer, Dash Snow, Martine Syms, Paul Chan, Carol Rama, Takashi Murakami, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, George Condo, Jerry Saltz, Virgil Abloh, Chloë Sevigny and Dana Schutz.
Like pieces of a mosaic, the interviews combine to create a unique and unprecedented portrait of the visual culture of recent decades, as well as Maurizio Cattelan's practice and his investigations into identity, the society in which we live, and the power of images.
