Born in 1930, from Russian descent, photographer Lionel Kazan early made his name in the 50s and 60s fashion world thanks to his photographs made for magazines Elle, Nouveau Fémina, Vogue, Marie-Claire, etc. He got to know the greatest post-war fashion photographers, including Irving Penn, Richard Avedon and Cecil Beaton, and photographed the most famous stars of these years, as Roger Vadim, Ingrid Bergman, Coco Chanel or Yves Saint-Laurent.
This chronologically-organised book recounts the life and career of Lionel Kazan through unpublished photographs, recently discovered by his daughter, of Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve at her beginnings, or Fernandel. It studies his relationships with Marc Allégret, Hélène Lazareff, Alex Liberman and with the protagonists of the fashion world of the time. Alternating archives, contact sheets, prints and reproductions of press pages and covers, the books depicts the atmosphere and dressing style of the 50s and 60s, and the corridors of the profession.
