Le Moment Supports-Surfaces

Auteur(s) : Déborah Laks, Bernard Ceysson

This book provides a history of the Supports/Surfaces group, created by Pierre Buraglio, Vincent Bioulès, Claude Viallat and ten other artists in 1970. Imbued with the philosophy of Derrida, Lacan and Barthes, and inspired in their political activism by figures such as Marx, Freud and Mao, these artists converged around a common ideological and artistic objective: the dismantling and demystification of the painting as an object, both physically and philosophically.

The book examines their painting, their practices and their theory, and also discusses aesthetics and religion. The works are arranged by artist and information on their exhibitions is included with a text on each artist.
