Joseph Parrocel, 1646-1704: La Nostalgie De L'heroïsme

Auteur(s) : Jérôme Delaplanche

Born in the South of France, Joseph Parrocel stayed in Rome and Venice before settling in Paris in 1675. Thanks to Louvois, he participated to the mural decorations of the Hotel des Invalides. Contemporary to Charles de La Fosse and Jean Jouvenet, Parrocel belongs to the generation of active painters under Louis XIV's reign who contributed to the realisation of the most prestigious French decors. Parrocel was the first and only French artist in the 17th century to practice regularly the battle painting.

After a first monographic part, this book established the catalogue raisonné of Parrocel's paintings, drawings and prints and includes a catalogue of the main rejected paintings and drawings.
