Gisèle Buthod-Garcon : La Terre, Simplement - The Clay, Simply

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at Keramis, La Louvière, 21 April - 2 September 2018

A Frenchwoman living in the Occitan region, Gisèle Buthod-Garçon (1954-) discovered her passion for clay in 1979, on her return from Senegal, attracted by its raw aspect, its burning vivacity and its carnal aspect. From the moment she took up ceramics and started working professionally in 1982, she never stopped experimenting, learning and solving with unrivalled persistence. Her work is entirely conditioned by the adoption of a specific firing method, raku firing. Fat enamel and raku seemed forever dissonant, yet Gisèle Buthod-Garçon has built her reputation on this paradox.

This catalogue of the exhibition devoted to Gisèle Buthod-Garçon by the Belgian centre Keramis presents the original work of this ceramist, who manages to reconcile the harshness of her surfaces with formal harmony.
