Exhibition at the Museo internazionale delle Ceramiche, Faenza, 17 March - 13 October 2024
Architect, designer and intellectual, Gio Ponti (Milan, 1891-1979) was a key figure in the creation of an Italian 'style' in the decorative arts. He was one of the greatest popularisers of Made in Italy since the 1920s, when he became artistic director of Richard Ginori, initiating a revival of production.
Over the course of his long career, Ponti came into contact with a number of Italian ceramic realities, including Cooperativa Ceramiche di Imola, Pietro Melandri, Ceramiche Pozzi, Joo and Gabbianelli.
This exhibition catalogue provides an insight into the central role played by Gio Ponti in the cultural debate and in the definition of Italian rationalism.
