Georgia O'keeffe

Auteur(s) : Didier Ottinger

Exhibition at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid, 20 April - 8 August 2021

The longevity of Georgia O'Keeffe's (1887-1986) artistic career made her the protagonist of early American modernist painting, of the search for identity that marked the 1930s, and of the "Hard Edge" abstract painting of the 1950s. From the Wisconsin landscapes of her childhood to the desert plains of New Mexico, from magnified flowers to shells, from arid canyons to riverbeds, from dried bones to massacres, she has never ceased to track down the forms that bear witness to the metamorphoses of life and the cycles of Nature.

Through a collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures from major American collections, and essays that introduce the eight sections of the exhibition, this catalogue presents all facets of the artist's work.
