OUT-OF-PRINT BOOK
Exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, 15 February - 30 April 1990
The name of the Russian artist Pavel Filonov (1883-1941) has completely disappeared from the history of Russian and Soviet art - unlike other protagonists of the 1920s avant-garde such as Malevich, Tatlin and Kandinsky. Only his legend, maintained by a few faithful and courageous disciples, has survived. Indeed, Filonov hardly ever sold and only rarely accepted to exhibit. The totality of his creation was, according to his wish, to constitute the main fund of the future Museum of Analytical Art, never created.
This book is the catalogue of the first exhibition devoted to Filonov outside the USSR. It was organised with the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, which keeps almost 90% of the artist's works.
