Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Musée national de la Renaissance - Château d'Écouen, 13 October 2021 - 14 February 2022

Venetian glassmaking is a complex and sublime art, which experienced a revival in the second half of the 15th century. Because of its immense success, it was imitated by glass centres throughout Europe (Italy, Tyrol, Austria, Bohemia, the Netherlands) and over a vast chronological period (16th-18th centuries).

Among the works that came out of these workshops, enamelled and gilded glass has held a particular fascination for art historians and collectors. Specialists agree that a number of pieces are copies or fakes made in the 19th century to meet market demand.

With its magnificent illustrations, this exhibition catalogue offers an opportunity to discover a little-known aspect of Renaissance decorative arts.
