This book by Clémentine Gustin-Gomez, including a monograph and a catalogue raisonné, allows rediscovering Charles de La Fosse's talent as a colourist. Far from the “colour quarrel” which opposed from 1670 the Ancients, followers of Poussin, and the Moderns, inspired by the Venetians and Rubens, Charles de La Fosse knew how to impose a new taste, thanks to the ease of his compositions. From the Assomption church, in the Invalides, to Versailles Great Appartments and royal chapel, La Fosse's works made him the master of Moderns and opened the way to 18th century painting.
The catalogue raisonné presents almost all paintings and drawings, and also lists lost or falsely attributed works.
