Born in Livorno (Italy), Leonardo Cappiello (1875-1942) settled in Paris in 1898, where he began his career as a humorist cartoonist. He collaborated to several magazines, including Le Rire and L'Assiette au beurre. From 1900, he began creating posters; among his most famous works, Cachou Lajaunie, Bouillon Kub or Savourez la Savora.
But the artist is also known for his caricatures, which are the subject of this catalogue raisonné. The whole caricature work by Cappiello published in the press between 1898 and 1905 is gathered in this volume. Each of them contains a note giving the circumstances of its creation, its bibliography, the exhibitions where it was shown and specific information.
