The Barberini Tapestries: Woven Monuments Of Baroque Rome

Auteur(s) : James Gordon Harper

This book is the first to deal comprehensively with the cycle of tapestries devoted to the life of Christ. The tapestries were commissioned by Cardinal Francesco Barberini, nephew of Urban VIII, and are one of the great "monuments" of Baroque Rome.

The book places the tapestries in the stylistic context of the mature Baroque and in that of the political and social propaganda of their patron.
