This monographic study, a synthesis of knowledge about the artist, retraces the essential stages in the life of the portraitist of the court of Louis XV. Based on correspondence and rare or unpublished archival documents, this work recounts the exceptional career of an eighteenth-century artist who was immensely popular with his contemporaries and whose name will forever symbolise grace, elegance and refinement.
