This lavishly illustrated monograph is devoted to the painter François Desportes (1661-1743), who became famous with a Self-portrait as a hunter, which enabled him to be admitted to the Académie on his return from the court of the King of Poland. He became the official painter of King Louis XIV and painted the decorations for the menagerie at Versailles as well as various royal residences (the châteaux of La Muette and Marly).
