Textiles Of Japan

This book underlines a part of the textile collection of Thomas Murray, an American art dealer who gathered a rare set of Japanese textiles unknown to the French audience. Their exceptional state of conservation and their great beauty made them bought by the Minneapolis Institute of Art in March 2019.

Organized in three parts, this book presents three great categories of Japanese textile - Aïnou, Mingei and Okinawa - and the various weaving techniques associated to each of them. From rugged Japanese firemen's ceremonial robes and austere rural work-wear to colourful, delicately-patterned cotton kimonos, this lavishly illustrated volume explores Japan's rich tradition of textiles.
